Clove, Whole Organic (2 oz.)

Clove (Syzygium aromaticum) is a flower bud that comes from a scented evergreen tree that grows in Asia and South America.  Its bud and stem are generally used as spice and food flavoring. Clove is very useful in dental health through its extracted oil from the plant, leaves, buds and fruit. “Caryophyllata” is from the greek word meaning “walnut leaves” since the tree has nearly the same leaves as that of the walnut tree. Its name also derived from Latin “clavus”, which means nail because of its nail-shape of the dried bud.

The clove tree prefers a tropical climate where there is rich soil. It must be planted in well-drained soil without an overabundance of water. They grow in cool, partially shaded areas and in places where rainfall is well distributed. The seeds can be planted in the soil directly and sometimes are drenched overnight in water and then sown. Clove trees grow to a height ranges from 20-40 feet.  It has large leaves and flowers in plentiful groups of terminal clusters. The flower buds turn from a pale color to a bright red when they are ready to be harvested.

Cloves are famous in African, Asian and Middle Eastern cooking. You can add them to fruit, such as apples or pears, to make a sweet and delicious dish. It is one of the main ingredients of the famous Worcestershire sauce & is a great source of vitamins and minerals such as calcium and Vitamin C. Clove is used medicinally to treat toothache and some dentists uses clove oil in their dental fillings, anesthetics and mouthwashes as well.
