Patchouli (Pogostemon cablin) is and aromatic herb from plant family Lamianceae, which includes Lavender, Oregano and Mint. It is native to India and Southeast Asia, now also cultivated in Taiwan, Malaysia, China and Thailand. It is tolerant to warm and tropical conditions. Patchouli grows well in hot weather but not in direct sunlight and well drained land up to1- 3 feet tall with a 3-4 foot spread. It is very fragrant herb with opposite, membranous, soft and egg shaped leaves with a square stem. Flowers bloom on axillary and terminal spikes which are white and tinged with purple. Its fruits are four seed like nutlets.
